Here We Go

Ready, set, go! I’m leaving tomorrow night after work for the Dominican Republic, and I’m thoroughly excited about it. Thank you to everyone that helped support me on this trip, both in prayers and donations, I came in just short of my goal, but the remainder I had already paid back in October. Now all that’s left to do is pack my bags and get some sleep! Tomorrow I’ll be working in about 18 degree weather (according to Yahoo!), but hopefully Tuesday I’ll be working in about 90 degree weather!

I’m not sure if I’ll have internet while I’m over there, so there may or may not be some updates on the blog during the next week and a half. If not, have no fear, I’ll be posting the stories on the trip based on the journal/notes I’ll be taking while I’m there, and I’ll also be posting some pictures.

I’m really excited to see what work is being done over there for God and also excited to share that with you guys. Please keep a couple things in your thoughts/prayers:

*A servant heart for me and the other 3 guys going. We’re not going all the way over there just to work for ourselves!

*Patience on our part. I know for a fact that working across cultures can prove to be frustrating at times to say the least.

*Pray for the people there, that they would open their hearts to us for some great fellowship and bonding.

*Pray that the work we do there is the kind of work that lasts and blesses the people in that community for many years.

*And finally, Pray I don’t get malaria! I’ve opted out of the pills (much to do with my lack of insurance that would cover them…assuming I had insurance to begin with) but I did manage to pick up some sweet travel health insurance for the trip. I call it sweet because it only cost me $9 for the week! As I write this I can’t help but think that maybe you could just pray for my health in general while I’m there…thanks.

Well, that’s it, I’m off to see what the deal is over there. I hope to be sharing with you guys soon and if I don’t get to send you guys any messages during the trip, I’ll see you when I make it back! Thanks again, you guys truly are the reason I can make this trip!

Support Letter

Greetings,

Thank you to everyone who was a blessing to the children in Thailand that I was working with the first half of the year. I could not have been able to do it without your prayers and donations. Everyday I was able to spend working with the children was not only a great blessing to them, but also to me. If I haven’t gotten a chance to share about the trip and you want to hear some of the stories, I’d love to talk to you. You can also read the blog I wrote while I was there at: http://www.thailandjourney.blogspot.com/

I am writing this letter to let you know of another ministry opportunity I have been blessed to be a part of. I will be going to the Dominican Republic from Jan 27th to Feb 3rd with 2nd Mile Missions. We will be joining with a local pastor and church community in a building project. During the week of our stay there we will be working with the people on a kitchen that has already been started. The purpose of the kitchen is to provide meals for the people in the area at a very low cost.

I’m really excited about the way this ministry is structured. The pastor of the church sees the poverty in his local community and has a desire to begin helping the people by attending to their most urgent need first: food. The location of the community is known as “the hole” and many of the people there cannot afford enough food for themselves and their families. The kitchen that we will be helping build is for these people to be able to access food at a low cost. Rod Wildman, the leader of the trip, has been directing these mission trips for 2 years in an effort to help aid both the pastor and church in reaching their goal. This is a great example of Americans assisting in a local project rather than Americanizing another part of the world.

I would really like to encourage you to get involved with us in this ministry. I am looking to raise 1300 dollars to cover the expense of the trip, and also I am asking for prayers for me and the three men I will be going with. We are very appreciative of any support that you can give us, by donating your time in prayer or by donating financially. I look forward to sharing the things that God is doing in the Dominican Republic with you!

Blessings,

Jeff Berdine

Ways you can get involved:

Prayer:
- for me and the three other guys going, that our hearts are ready and we remain healthy for, and on the trip.
- For the hearts of the people in the church community that we are going to support.
- For encouragement to the pastor of the church in the Dominican Republic

Financial:
If you can help financially, I need to raise 1300 dollars to be able to go on the trip. You can receive a tax deduction by making a check payable to 2nd mile missions and postmark it to me by Jan. 1st. If you aren’t concerned with the tax deduction you can make a check payable to me and I would need to receive it by the end of January.
